We’re used to seeing amazing performances on the dancefloor or ice rink, but have you ever seen someone do a jaw-dropping routine on rollerblades? Meet Sofia Bogdanova, a young Russian skater who glides through an obstacle course with incredible skill.
In 2017, at the Slalom Open competition in Shanghai, a video captured one of Sofia’s most stunning performances. Dressed in a beautiful dark blue mini-dress, she moved like magic, her skirt swirling around her as she weaved effortlessly between cones. The audience watched in awe as she skated gracefully on her toes, making it look as easy as walking. But trust us—it’s anything but easy!
Sofia’s talent was undeniable, and it was no surprise when she won the competition that year. She even came back the next year and won again!
Born on August 6, 2005, in Moscow, Russia, Sofia’s journey started when she was just four years old. Her parents signed her up for ice-skating lessons, which sparked her love for skating. A few years later, she discovered rollerblading, and it quickly became clear—this girl was special. She had a natural gift that set her apart from everyone else.
But being a prodigy didn’t mean she had an easy road. Sofia had to work incredibly hard to get where she is today. She practices five days a week—an intense schedule for anyone, let alone a young girl. Imagine giving up playdates, birthday parties, and hours of TV just to train! That’s the kind of dedication Sofia has.
And all that hard work has paid off. She has won the World Slalom Championship six times and the European Championship nine times. She’s still young, yet she’s already achieved what many athletes only dream of. In 2020, she even won a Global Child Prodigy Award, a huge honor for someone so young.
If you’ve never seen Sofia in action, start with her 2017 Shanghai performance. It will leave you speechless. At one point, she skates backward through cones while balancing on just one heel—something that seems almost impossible. “She’s going to fall!” you might think. But no—she keeps her balance perfectly, moving as smoothly as if she’s floating on air.
She looks completely calm and happy as she skates, like she’s in her own world. With her golden hair and graceful moves, she almost looks like an angel—but let’s be real, even an angel probably couldn’t skate this well! Her routine is so flawless that you have to see it to believe it.
And plenty of people have seen it. Over the last five years, the video has been watched 86 million times and has earned 971,000 likes. Fans on YouTube can’t stop talking about how incredible she is. One person summed it up perfectly:
“Can’t even do this with normal shoes on and just walking…normally. Some people are just born artists. She has found her talent and…she practiced years and years and years.”
If you think that’s impressive, check out her other performances! One of her most famous videos is from 2016, where she skates to Evanescence’s Bring Me To Life. It’s so powerful, it will give you chills!
