One of the coolest things about platforms like YouTube is that they let us see super talented people from all over the world way before they become famous. A great example of this is Mia Black, an amazing singer from Ireland.
Mia has loved music since she was a baby. Before she could even talk, her dad noticed something special—she was humming the exact same sound as the phone’s dial tone!
Mia was born on December 18, 2006, in Galway, Ireland, into a family full of musicians. Her grandfather, Gerry Black, played in three different bands: The Hilton, The Finnavons, and Gerry Black & The Seasons. Music runs in the family because Mia is also the great-niece of Mickey O’Neill, who played with the famous Irish singer Brendan Bowyer and the band The Swarbriggs.
As Mia grew up, her love for music only got stronger. She started singing along to songs and found YouTube to be a great way to learn more.
Mia’s musical journey kicked off when she was just seven years old. She performed at concerts, took part in musicals at theatres, and even sang at weddings. By the time she was eleven, she took her talent to the streets of Galway, busking and performing for people passing by. She says that busking helped her gain confidence to perform in front of bigger crowds.
Like many young musicians today, Mia began making videos for social media, especially YouTube. She started her own channel, which now has nearly 95,000 subscribers. Her most popular video so far is her cover of Ed Sheeran’s hit song “Perfect,” which has been watched an incredible 3.3 million times! In total, all her videos have been viewed over 8.3 million times.
But Mia’s success doesn’t stop there. She also appears regularly on the popular YouTube channel “Dublin City Today,” where her videos have racked up over 10 million views! It’s clear that her talent is being noticed far beyond Ireland.
Recently, Mia got an exciting invitation from “Boyce Avenue,” the most-followed band in America. They asked her to come to Florida and record two cover songs with another group called “Interval 941.” Interestingly, the members of Interval 941 are the sons of Boyce Avenue’s band members, so it all connects perfectly. The video they made together has been a big hit, and it might not be long before Mia becomes just as famous in the USA as she is in Ireland!
Mia’s talent isn’t just on YouTube. She has already recorded four demo CDs—two in a professional studio and two from her live performances. It’s pretty impressive, especially considering she’s not even fifteen years old yet! She’s also working hard to learn new skills, like playing the ukulele and guitar, and she’s even writing her own songs in hopes of creating her own album someday.
Since Mia is still so young, she hasn’t started dating yet, and with all her plans for the future, romance might have to wait. When asked what she would be if she wasn’t a musician, Mia said, “I love acting, so probably an actress!” Looks like she has big dreams and plenty of talent to achieve them.
So, what does the future hold for Mia? In her own words: “Hopefully writing good music with a good message and acting.”
If you haven’t heard Mia sing yet, now is the perfect time! Check out one of her most popular videos where she performs “You Are The Reason” by Calum Scott. And if you want to see more from this talented young artist, subscribe to her YouTube channel or follow her on Facebook.
