Buskers are getting younger and younger these days, but one boy, Olly, might just be the youngest busker in the UK. Olly, who calls himself “Guitar Olly” on YouTube, started playing music on the streets of Chester, England, when he was only eight years old!
Most musicians start learning their instruments when they are young, but not many have the courage to perform in front of strangers on busy streets. According to Olly’s YouTube channel, his grandad began teaching him to play the guitar when he was just six. He learned very fast and even played for his neighbors during the lockdown to cheer them up.
Olly fell in love with the guitar and dreams of becoming a professional musician one day. Playing on the streets helps him practice and get comfortable performing for people. His parents helped him set up his YouTube channel to share his love for music and show his progress as he works towards becoming an expert.
Even though Olly is only nine years old now, he already has an amazing collection of guitars that would make any musician jealous. He owns a Gio Ibanez black electric superstrat, a Vintage Les Paul Sunburst, a Jose Ferrer acoustic guitar, and eight more! On top of that, he also has a ukulele and a Stagg drum kit. While most kids his age are busy playing video games like Fortnite or Minecraft, Olly is fully focused on his music. His dedication is truly impressive!
In one of his videos, Olly is seen playing the classic tune “Apache.” He looks super cute in his simple white t-shirt and black baseball cap. Next to him, there is a sign explaining who he is and why he’s busking. But the most surprising thing is his electric guitar—it looks almost too big for him to hold! However, as soon as he starts playing, it’s clear that the size doesn’t matter. He plays with incredible skill and doesn’t seem to mind the crowd around him at all. People walking by stop to watch, amazed by his talent. He already looks like a star!
Olly has definitely become well-known in his hometown. One person who saw him performing left a comment on YouTube saying, “I live in Chester and walk through town every day. We see a lot of street musicians, but none of them are as good as this little lad. I couldn’t get my hand in my pocket fast enough!”
It’s clear that Olly has a special talent, and as he keeps practicing, he will only get better. If you want to see more of Guitar Olly, you can subscribe to his YouTube channel and follow his musical journey.
