One day, Jacob Koopman was playing his guitar and singing on Grafton Street in Dublin, just like any other day. But this day turned out to be anything but ordinary! Two of the biggest pop stars in the world, Lewis Capaldi and Niall Horan, showed up and changed his life forever.
Jacob was in the middle of his performance when he noticed the two stars standing behind him, enjoying his music. Then, out of nowhere, Capaldi and Horan stepped up to his microphone and surprised everyone by singing an amazing duet together!
“We couldn’t resist joining in!” Capaldi joked, making the crowd laugh and cheer. The trio launched into Capaldi’s hit song “Before You Go,” taking turns singing the lead. The crowd was totally into it, singing along to every word. It was one of those magical moments you had to see to believe.
What made the performance even more special was Capaldi’s infectious energy. He was clearly having the time of his life, joking with Jacob and Niall, dancing around, and keeping the crowd pumped up. His excitement was contagious, turning the whole street into a big party.
The unforgettable moment happened on August 6, 2022, and was captured on video by Dublin City Today. The video went viral on YouTube, racking up an impressive 1.5 million views. Grafton Street, one of Dublin’s busiest shopping areas, is a popular spot for street performers, but this performance was something truly extraordinary.
The fun didn’t stop with just one song. The trio kept the good vibes going with another hit—Niall Horan’s chart-topping song “Slow Hands.” Horan played his acoustic guitar while the crowd swayed and sang along.
Jacob Koopman, an Indo-Dutch singer-songwriter based in Dublin, already had a solid following before this amazing encounter. His YouTube channel boasts 110,000 subscribers, and some of his videos have crossed the million-view mark.
His most popular video to date features an unexpected duet with a random audience member, who joined him to sing Tones and I’s hit song “Dance Monkey.” That surprise performance brought in a whopping 3.3 million views!
Despite all his success, nothing quite compares to his unforgettable jam session with Capaldi and Horan. Their performance of “Before You Go” was truly a highlight in Jacob’s career. The song, which was the only new track on the extended edition of Capaldi’s debut album Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent, was a huge hit, reaching number one on the Irish and UK charts in late 2019 and early 2020.
