Who is this young guy daring to sing a song by the legendary Bruce Springsteen on The Voice Norway 2022? Meet Jørgen Dahl Moe. With his boyish looks and a baseball cap worn backwards, he might seem younger than he actually was—25 years old at the time of his blind audition. But Jørgen wasn’t new to the spotlight. Back in 2009, when he was just 13, he won Melodi Grand Prix Junior, a famous Norwegian singing competition for kids.
Melodi Grand Prix Junior is a big TV event where kids aged 8 to 15 show off their singing talent. Jørgen’s song, “Din Egen Vei” (which means “Your Own Way”), was a hit and even reached the top of the Norwegian album charts for a whole week. Fast forward to 2022, and he was ready to impress again with his cover of Bruce Springsteen’s classic hit “Dancing in the Dark.”
The moment Jørgen started singing, the audience clapped along, and the judges couldn’t hide their excitement. They leaned forward, smiled, and nodded their heads in approval. Two minutes into the song, one of the judges, Matoma, was so moved that he actually shed a tear.
When the video was posted online in January 2022, it quickly became a huge hit, racking up 8 million views! Fans couldn’t stop praising Jørgen’s version. One fan, Sandro Santos, wrote: “One of the best covers I’ve ever heard. Simply brilliant. Perfect English, perfect tones, perfect tempo. Bruce Springsteen should be honored.” Another fan, Manjoe Malinao, said, “I’ve been a big fan of the Boss, but boy, this young man has taken this old song to a whole new level of beauty with a hint of sadness.” Many people agreed, saying they loved Jørgen’s softer, more emotional take on the song compared to Springsteen’s powerful, high-energy style.
Jørgen didn’t stop there. He wowed everyone again with his version of “Always On My Mind,” a classic song made famous by Elvis Presley. It was clear that Jørgen was the fan favorite to win The Voice Norway, and he didn’t disappoint. In May 2022, he was crowned the winner of the seventh season of the show!
Jørgen grew up in Andebu, a small town near Sandefjord, which is about 120 kilometers south of Oslo. Sandefjord is a charming seaside town with beautiful beaches and large forests. Jørgen’s love for music started when he was just five years old, when he first picked up a guitar. He loved writing songs and singing from an early age.
In high school, Jørgen attended Sandefjord Upper Secondary School, where he joined the music, dance, and drama program. He also took singing lessons for two years with a teacher named Kristin Vold Nese. But music wasn’t his only passion. He loved football too! He played for his local club, Andebu, and in 2009—the same year he won Melodi Grand Prix Junior—he also won a trick competition at the Norway Cup football event.
Despite his busy schedule, Jørgen never stopped performing. He sang at local concerts and festivals whenever he could and kept writing his own music. In 2018, he released his first single, “I Never Had You,” all by himself. Then in 2020, he came out with an EP called “Suicide Circus.”
Jørgen kept wowing audiences on The Voice, and his performance of “Purple Rain” in the finals was unforgettable. He proved that he wasn’t just another contestant—he was a true artist with a bright future ahead.
